"City of Ashes" by Cassandra Clare

Seeing as how City of Bones was so awesome, I was really excited to read City of Ashes. My St. Cloud boys told me the whole series was good, and they weren’t wrong.

This installment follows Clary as she tries to deal with her feelings for Jace, who she found out at the end of the last book is her brother, as well as her greater involvement with the Shadowhunters. A lot happens in this book, including a greater role for Simon, a possible cure for Clary’s mother, and the discovery of new Shadowhunter powers. Valentine is still looking for the second Mortal Instrument, the Mortal Sword, and Clary, Jace, and their friends are trying to stop him. A huge battle ends the book, along with a few more surprises.

The only thing I didn’t like about this book was how Clary still had feelings for Jace, even though he’s her brother. I know she didn’t know he was related to her when she met, and fell in love with, him, but come on! I got the shivers every time Clary thought about her feelings for him, and that took me out of the world of the book. Besides this one thing, though, it was quite fantastic, and I give it an 8.5.
