“Zombie Blondes” by Brian James

This book was voted as one of the best Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror books of last year, so I was really interested in reading it – not only was it sure to be good, it was something different from vampires.

I wasn’t disappointed. While it’s pretty clear early on that the town is, in fact, full of zombies, main character Hannah doesn’t believe her friend Lukas when he tells her this and she continues to try to fit in. The school issues are relevant and realistic, the romance is believable, and when Hannah finally realizes that Lukas was right, the final showdown for Hannah’s human-ness is exciting and dangerous. The ending is chilling, and quite creepy. I gave this one an 8 out of 10, so if you like horror at high school, this is a great book for you.
