This is the second House of Night book, and it was almost as good as the first one. I gave it an 8.5, half a point less than Marked (http://teens.osceolalibrary.org/2009/06/marked-by-pc-cast-and-children-of-lamp.html)
In this one, Zoey is settling into her life at the House of Night. Her friends are solid, she’s dating the hottest, nicest guy in school, and she’s even been chosen as the leader of the Dark Daughters. Then human teens start turning up dead, and all evidence points to a vampyre. As if this wasn’t enough, someone Zoey knows at the House of Night dies, and she must also deal with Neferet, who is not as pure as she seems. When Heath, Zoey’s ex-boyfriend from her human life, goes missing, she knows she must save him from whatever it is that is killing human teens. Will she be able to save him in time? Will she be able to do it without Neferet’s knowledge? And will she be able to go on after the death at House of Night?
This one was just slightly not-as-good as the first one, mostly because of the language. No 16-year-old I know uses “ho” “stank” or “ohmygoodness” as much as Zoey and her friends do. One of those words is present on nearly every page, which gets kind of old after a while, but other than this complaint, I loved it. The death scene had me literally sobbing, and Zoey is a good person with flaws, which I think makes her more interesting than Bella Swan. I’ve already started the third book, and so far it’s good!
