"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" by J. K. Rowling

In honor of the movie coming out this week, I thought it would be appropriate to write a review of the book. I've read HBP before, but I always re-read the books before going to see the movie.

The book was just as good as I remembered it, even though I read it almost as fast as the first time around. Harry is starting his sixth year at Hogwarts, as Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and he's to have private lessons with Dumbledore this year. Voldemort is gaining power and Malfoy has a mysterious mission he must fulfill or face Voldy's wrath. Hormones are also running rampant as Ginny and Ron both find significant others, with Harry and Hermione dealing with jealous feelings. And, of course, a final battle where someone significant dies.

I give HBP an 8 out of 10. Of course, when it comes to Harry Potter, my ratings are completely subjective since Rowling's books are all of the same excellent caliber. Prisoner of Azkaban was my favorite, and I gave it a 9. Sorcerer's Stone receives an 8.5, with Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows both receiving an 8. Goblet of Fire is next, with a 7, and Chamber of Secrets, my least favorite, receiving a 6.5. I know some of you may be totally over Harry Potter, but I think he's worth a second look, especially in light of the movie. I know I'll be going to see it!
