Yes, this book is by the same P.C. Cast of the House of Night novels, which is the main reason I picked it up. It’s actually an adult book, which I don’t normally read, but I just love her writing so much I decided to give it a whirl.
Everyone has heard of the Little Mermaid – the mermaid who loved the land and asked to be turned into a human so she could meet the man of her dreams and remain on land forever. This book was essentially a re-telling of the story, only with a feminist, romantic slant. CC is transformed into the mermaid Undine after a terrible plane crash, which is cool with her, but there is danger in the water for her, so she asks the Great Mother, Gaea, to help her. CC/Undine must take to the land to live, but cannot stray far from the ocean or she will die.
This is an adult romance book, as I’ve stated above, so my readers should keep this in mind if they decide to read it. There are intimate scenes between CC/Undine and her true love, Dylan, handled in a tasteful but adult way. That being said, I loved this book, especially its feminist slant. It’s so refreshing to read about women being strong and powerful just because they are women, not because they’re warriors or killers. I give this one an 8.5.
