I almost didn’t read this book because of the title. To me, it sounded like some girl whining about how bad her prom date was because she was popular and he was a dork, or something like that. I couldn’t have been farther off the mark!
This book reminded me a lot of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books – there’s a paranormal adventure, good friends, wit, and a big bad evil that may or may not change the world as we know it. Maggie Quinn is a normal high school senior until her Sight starts acting up again, sending her weird dreams and strong intuition. There’s a big Evil coming to town, and Maggie is the only one who can stop it because she’s the only one who can feel it. Things get weirder and weirder and Maggie can’t really figure out what the endgame is for the Evil Thing – until she figures out what it wants and realizes that Prom Night is the night it will try to break into our world.
I loved Maggie as a character – she was funny and witty, she was basically a good person but still got in trouble, and she kept her mind focused on the task at hand instead of the cute college guy working with her to solve the mystery. (Well...mostly). Her parents were realistic and I was laughing out loud at points. Overall, a wonderful read and this one gets a rating of 9 from me. I already have the second book, Hell Week, checked out!
