This is the second book in the Darkest Power series. The first book, The Summoning, introduced Chloe, Simon, Derek, Rae, and Tori as supernaturals with different powers. The scientists want to do experiments with them and find out what they can do with their powers.
The second book begins with Chloe and Rae stuck in some kind of medical facility. Chloe knows they’re in danger but she has no idea how much danger – until she finds a report in Dr. Davidoff’s office about her and her friends. Now escape is of the utmost importance, as well as finding the guys and their dad. Chloe and Tori manage to elude the Edison Group and find the guys, but they have to get as far away as possible. Will they escape the Edison Group for good, or will they be dragged back into captivity like dangerous animals?
This one started out a little slower than the first one, but once we got going into the story, I was completely hooked. Armstrong draws her characters really vividly, so I feel like I know Chloe. I also like how there are no easy answers for her and her friends – it makes it feel more realistic. This one gets an 8 from me, same as the first.
Apparently there’s a third book on the way called The Reckoning, but there’s no release date for it yet here in the US. You can bet I’ll be keeping an eye out for it!
