I picked up this book because a friend of mine had read it and told me it was really good. She wasn’t wrong.
Imagine a future where you don’t have to carry money or I.D. anymore – all you have to do is get a bar code tattoo. This tattoo means you’ll never lose your wallet again, no one can steal your money from you, and it doesn’t even hurt to get it. So why does Kayla feel uneasy about getting one? When tragedy strikes her family, she realizes there may be more to these tattoos than just a name and bank account. What she discovers is so dangerous that she must flee for her life.
This futuristic look at identity and conformity is really intriguing, and Kayla is so well portrayed that I kept turning pages faster and faster as I neared the end of the book because I was really worried she might not make it alive. I thought it was really well-written and quite interesting, with enough grimness in the future world to make it feel very real. I give it a 8.5 and I highly recommend it to someone looking for a quick, thrilling read.
