“Shadow Kiss” by Richelle Mead

This is the third in the Vampire Academy books (the first was Vampire Academy and the second was Frostbite) and this series just keeps getting better and better!

Rose is dealing with the death of Mason, Adrian is continuing to be a pain, and Lissa has decided to go off her meds so she can access her magic. Then, for the field experience, Rose is assigned to someone other than Lissa, and she finds out that Victor will be standing trial for his crimes (from the first book) and she and Lissa will not be allowed to testify. And as if that’s not enough for Rose to deal with, she may or may not be seeing ghosts. When a massive group of Strigori attack the school, traditions will be changed, lives will be lost, and Rose will have to make a tough choice.

The ending was a complete surprise to me, which was really nice – but this series is more real life than a lot of the “vampires and romance” books I’ve been reading lately. Rose has some tough days ahead of her and I can’t wait to see where she’s going in Blood Promise. This installment gets an 8 out of 10.
